Testing The Speed of Your Broadband Service
You can run a broadband speed test if you are wondering what your actual
broadband speed is on the information highway. Just type "Broadband Speed Test"
in your search engine and you'll find sites where you can test your broadband
speed for free. Broadband speed tests will check how fast your connection can
download a large file, or "ping" your IP address to check your IP address and
give you a report if there's any down time.
If your connection seems to be slowing down, take a broadband speed test to
find out if there is a problem with your broadband connection. In most
instances, broadband speed tests take less than five minutes. Ping tests,
however, can take longer. Before running a broadband speed test, disable your
firewall for a few minutes as this is the common reason most broadband speed
tests return errors. When you're doing a broadband speed test, do it at least
three times so you can have a good idea of how good or bad your broadband speed
is.
If your broadband speed test results are not what you've been quoted by your
provider, you must call your provider and ask for assistance. The fix could be
simple like uninstalling some spy ware or reconfiguring some things in your
computer. Run the broadband speed test again after the suggested solutions and
see if the problem has been resolved.
The high-speed Internet connection is probably the number one reason you
chose to go with a broadband Internet service. If you are not satisfied with how
your broadband Internet connection performs, exhaust the means to resolve the
problem. There could be an easy fix to get the most value out of the money you
are paying to travel high-speed across the information highway. |
